Tech Plus Hub: How I Grew Organic Traffic by 40% Through SEO

Tech Plus Hub started as a personal tech blog (techpulsehub.me) where I could learn SEO by doing it. Over six months, keyword research, on-page optimization, and consistent visuals helped me grow its organic search traffic by 40%.

Why I Built a Tech Blog to Learn SEO

I come from an electronics background, so tech content felt natural. I also wanted a real testing ground for search optimization, where I could try ideas, measure results, and learn from mistakes without putting a client's budget on the line.

The Challenge: Content Without a Strategy

At the start, the blog had content but no clear direction. Posts had no defined target keywords, titles were chosen by instinct, and the visuals varied from post to post.

Publishing more articles would not solve the problem. I needed a structured approach to keyword research, content optimization, and visual consistency.

My SEO Approach

Step 1: Keyword Research

I focused on specific topics with clear search intent instead of broad, highly competitive terms. Each article had one primary keyword supported by a few related phrases. This kept the content focused and helped align each post with what people were searching for.

Step 2: On-Page Optimization

I followed the fundamentals outlined in Google Search Central documentation and applied them across the blog.

  • Titles and meta descriptions: Rewrote them to better match search intent and communicate the value of each article.
  • Heading structure: Organized content with clear H2 and H3 headings to improve readability and make articles easier to scan.
  • Internal linking: Connected related posts to help readers discover more content and help search engines understand the relationships between pages.
  • Content updates: Improved older articles instead of leaving them untouched, refining their structure and relevance where needed.

Step 3: Consistent Visual Thumbnails

I designed clean, consistent thumbnails in Canva for every post. A recognizable visual style gave the blog a more cohesive appearance and helped communicate each article's subject at a glance.

I use the same principle when working on client channels, as demonstrated in my AdTech YouTube Growth project.

SEO helps people discover your content. Clear, relevant visuals can help make that content more appealing when they encounter it in search results or on other platforms.

The Results: Six Months of SEO Work

Over six months, organic search traffic grew by 40%.

The original analytics reports from that period are no longer available, so I cannot provide a complete traffic graph. However, I retained Wincher rank-tracking data from November 2024 that offers additional insight into the site's search performance.

  • 22 keyword positions gained, while 14 positions were lost.
  • 1 new ranking keyword recorded during the tracking period.
  • 4 new pages picked up by Google within days.
  • Average keyword position improved by 4 places.

These figures represent early-stage progress on a young website. Although the full analytics history is unavailable, the retained ranking data provides useful evidence of how the site's search visibility was developing.

What I Learned From the Project

This project taught me several practical lessons about SEO and content development.

  • Specific keywords can create clearer opportunities. Targeting focused search queries helped me build content around a more defined audience and search intent.
  • Existing content deserves attention. Updating older posts can be a valuable part of an SEO strategy, particularly when the content already has potential.
  • Visual consistency matters. Relevant, well-designed thumbnails improve presentation and can influence whether people choose to engage with content.
  • Performance tracking is essential. I learned the importance of saving analytics reports and maintaining a reliable record of results. Keeping the full traffic history would have made it easier to demonstrate the project's progress.
